1 Project Requirements and Challenges

Big C Viet Tri needed an efficient central cooling solution that would significantly reduce electricity costs due to operating a high-capacity refrigeration system during peak hours. Due to limited underground space and structural requirements, the solution needed to be deployed flexibly, with the cold storage tank located off-site while still ensuring maximum efficiency and durability.

The objective was to find a cost-effective energy saving solution with a quick payback period, suitable for the operating conditions of a shopping mall.

2 ESS Vietnam's Above Ground Concrete Tank Solution

ESS Vietnam has consulted and implemented the Cold Storage Tank (TES) solution made of reinforced concrete placed above ground outside the building. This solution not only optimizes electricity costs but also demonstrates ESS Vietnam's flexible design and construction capabilities for all types of spaces:

1. Active Energy Saving: The system takes advantage of off-peak hours to produce and store 8,900 kWh of cooling capacity in the tank.

2. Stable Supply: Stored cold is used to meet peak cooling demand during peak hours, avoiding operating the Chiller system when electricity is most expensive.

3. Above Ground Concrete Tank: Using an outside above ground concrete tank structure not only ensures durability and long life but also completely solves the problem of space inside the building, easily integrating into the landscape and operating process.

3 Technical Efficiency and Investment Value

Big C Viet Tri project is one of the pioneering projects, affirming the reputation and ability to bring great financial benefits of the TES solution.

• Proven Economic Efficiency: Although the 8,900 kWh capacity is suitable for the project scale, the efficiency is huge, demonstrated by the committed payback period (ROI) of only 3.5 years .

• Fast Deployment Time: The project was completed and handed over for installation in August 2013 , demonstrating the ability to execute quickly and accurately.
