1 Operational Requirements and Industrial Challenges
As one of the large electronic component manufacturing plants, Canon Thang Long Factory requires a stable and high-efficiency cold source to maintain an ideal production environment and ensure product quality. Like other large industrial facilities, controlling electricity consumption costs during peak hours is a key factor to optimize profits.
Main project requirements:
-
Provides large cooling capacity to cope with high cooling demand during peak hours.
-
Ensures a durable solution, suitable for outdoor installation locations.
-
Achieve reasonable payback periods for infrastructure investments.
2 Large Capacity Floating Cold Storage Tank Solution
ESS Vietnam has deployed a reinforced concrete Cold Storage Tank (TES) solution placed outside the building, making the most of the available space and meeting the large cooling capacity demand of 12,400 kWh of the factory.
-
Optimize Electricity Costs: The TES tank acts as a "cold bank", storing energy at night (off-peak hours) and releasing this cold energy to supply the production system during peak hours, reducing the load on the main Chiller system.
-
High Durability: The use of above ground concrete tank structures is a sustainable choice for industrial environments, ensuring long design life and good resistance to weather conditions.
3 Investment Efficiency and Actual Implementation Process
Canon Thang Long Factory Project demonstrates the economic efficiency and wide applicability of TES technology in the field of industrial production.
-
Economic Efficiency: The large capacity of 12,400 kWh helps the plant significantly reduce peak hour electricity costs, resulting in a payback period (ROI) of 4 years .
-
Delivery Time: The project was completed, installed and put into operation in June 2017 , ensuring the progress of the factory's production activities.
3.1 Installation Process Details
The construction process of Cold Storage Tank at Canon Thang Long Factory is carried out according to strict technical standards:
-
Workers install waterproofing membrane: This is the first important step after completing the concrete structure, to ensure maximum cold retention and prevent leakage.
-
Rack and Heat Exchanger System: Install the core components of the tank. The heat exchanger is where the ice formation and melting process takes place, determining the system's charging/discharging performance.
-
Concrete ice storage tank at Canon Thang Long Utilities factory: Final image of the completed TES tank, ready for commercial operation to optimize energy for the factory.
